Door Hardware Design Ideas

When you decide to install new interior doors or exterior doors in your northern California home, you’ve created a great opportunity to show off your personal style. Whether you love sleek, contemporary panels or something more ornate, doors add character to any space. But your design options don’t end after you’ve chosen your doors. Next comes door hardware! Hardware is, of course, functional yet also adds a lot of interest to your doors. If you’re in the process of redoing your doors or building a home, we’re sharing ideas on how to pair doors and hardware.

Mixing Metals

One of the hottest trends in hardware is the mixing of finishes. While it would have once seemed taboo to put different metals together, that’s not so anymore. There’s a great contrast and also great interest that arises when you layer on the metallics. However, if you are going to do this then your door needs to be simple and works best on interior doors. Choose a flat panel white interior door with simple lines. Let the hardware be the element that gives the door its style.

Modern Rectangles

When it comes to shapes, rectangles are what’s now for door hardware. You’ll see this theme repeated in levers, pulls, deadbolts, and knobs. The rectangle itself with its perfect 90-degree angles will be a great addition to any contemporary doors that are clean and easy. However, don’t overlook mixing things up with more ornate doors. Rectangle hardware can be used with doors that lack simplicity. The combination balances out the entire look for a pleasing aesthetic.

Rustic Finishes

Farmhouse style is still very much a big trend, and it’s one that’s being incorporated in homes all across the country. Farmhouse has even popularized the Dutch door again, which depends on quality hardware to work optimally. To go along with these doors—either painted or stained—dark bronze hardware is a great way to give these doors a finishing touch.

Add Some Bling

Crystal knobs for your interior doors allow you to add some old Hollywood style into your spaces. Perfect for bathrooms, closets, or other specialty doors, these knobs work with both modern or traditional doors. You can even add color to your doors then complete the look with a crystal knob. What might a jewel green or soft blue door look with a simple crystal knob? Absolutely fabulous.

These are just a few ideas that we’re seeing as big trends now into 2019. We recommend and carry a full line of Emtek hardware. Check out some of the options to find inspiration.
